Thank you for considering boosting your donation to Reach through Gift Aid.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Gift Aid, and why does it matter?
Gift Aid allows charities to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate – at no cost to you. It helps your donation go further, simply and safely.
  • What am I agreeing to when I tick the Gift Aid box?
    • You're confirming you're a UK taxpayer and pay enough tax to cover the Gift Aid on your donations. Find out more from HMRC here.
    • Gift Aid applies to all donations you make to charities (unless you opt out).
    • Your donations are your own money, not someone else's or a collection.
    • You understand that if your tax status changes, you need to let us know.
  • Why do you need my name and home address?
HMRC asks all charities to collect this information. Your name and address help us link your Gift Aid declaration to your tax records so we can boost your donation.
  • What happens if I move house or my tax status changes?
Please let us know as soon as possible. It helps us keep your Gift Aid declaration valid and compliant. You can email sarosha.byrne@reachuk.org or call 01636 819066 to let us know.
  • Will you remind me if I need to update anything?
We aim to keep you informed, but it is important that you let us know if anything changes that may affect your Gift Aid eligibility.
  • Can I cancel my Gift Aid declaration?
Absolutely, at any time. Just get in touch and we’ll make sure it’s updated on our system.
  • Why is this important?
If a Gift Aid declaration is incorrect or out of date, it can cause problems for both charities and HMRC, including repayments. Staying up to date helps us maximise your generosity, safely and legally.
  • What if I'm a higher-rate taxpayer?
Our charity can claim Gift Aid at the basic rate on your donation. You can claim back the difference between the tax you’ve paid on the donation and what the charity got back when you fill in your Self Assessment tax return.
  • If I donate through Payroll Giving, do you still receive Gift Aid?
If your employer or pension provider offers a Payroll Giving scheme, any donations you give are taken from your pay before Income Tax, which means you receive immediate tax relief and your gift can go further at no extra cost to you. Because the tax benefit is built in, these donations are not eligible for Gift Aid.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with sarosha.byrne@reachuk.org or call us on 01636 819066 if you have any questions about any of the above, or need to let us know of any changes.

Thank you!
