Volunteers Week 2026: Celebrating the Power of Community

This Volunteers Week, we’re taking the time to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution our volunteers make to our charity.

Every week, volunteers support our work across Newark and Sherwood, and Mansfield, helping adults with learning disabilities to build skills, confidence and connections. From supporting courses and social activities to sharing specialist skills and offering encouragement, their commitment plays a vital role in enabling people to live happier, healthier and more independent lives.

Quite simply, we could not achieve the impact we do without them.

Creating opportunities for everyone

Volunteering is not only something that supports our organisation, it is also an important opportunity for the people we work alongside. We are proud to be supporting adults with learning disabilities to begin or develop their own volunteering journeys.

These opportunities enable people to:

  • build confidence and independence
  • develop practical and social skills
  • form meaningful relationships
  • play an active and valued role in their community

This reflects our belief that everyone has the right to aspire and to share in the life of their community.

What volunteering means to our community

Here are some words from a few volunteers that highlight the sense of purpose, belonging and enjoyment that volunteering can bring:

“A truly wonderful place where I feel valued and have a real sense of purpose with lovely people.”

“Such a happy, fun place. Always lots of laughs. I so look forward to my days at Reach and miss the clients when I am not there.”

These experiences capture the mutual benefit of volunteering, where people not only give their time but gain connection, purpose and a strong sense of community.

Thank you

We would like to thank every volunteer who has supported Reach Learning Disability, whether recently or over many years. Your time, energy and commitment make a lasting difference.

As Volunteers Week comes to a close, we recognise that this contribution continues all year round. We remain committed to creating meaningful volunteering opportunities and to supporting more people with learning disabilities to take part in volunteering in ways that work for them.

Together, we are building a community where people with learning disabilities can create positive futures for themselves, surrounded by opportunity, friendship and purpose.
