Southwell Summer Scamper Raises £6,625

We were delighted to welcome Southwell Running Club this week and receive a cheque for an incredible £5,500, raised through the club’s inaugural Southwell Summer Scamper.

The fantastic community event took place on Sunday 14th June, with the route taking in the beautiful surroundings of the Brackenhurst Campus, where Flower Pod Southwell is also situated.

Reach volunteers enjoyed their roles at the very well organised event, alongside some of the Southwell Lions, helping to marshal the course, offering refreshments and runners on! We were especially proud that some of the adults with learning disabilities we support were involved in welcoming runners over the finish line, joining Nottinghamshire-born Paralympic gold medallist and marathon runner Richard Whitehead who launched the event and handed out the finishers’ medals. The day was a fantastic event for the community.

In addition to the funds raised by the event itself, two of our fantastic team chose to take on the challenge and fundraise for Reach: Julia Sandhu, Fundraising Director, and Amy, a Reach volunteer. Julia says

“The amazing £5,500 raised through the event, together with a further £1,145 raised by our Reach runners, will help us to continue providing quality activities for local adults with learning disabilities and their families.”

Everyone at Reach would like to thank Southwell Running Club, every runner, volunteer, sponsor and supporter who helped make the event such a success.

With such a brilliant debut, plans are already underway for next year. We’re delighted to share that Southwell Running Club have chosen to support our charity yet again, with next years event taking place on Sunday 13th June.

Bring on Southwell Summer Scamper 2027, bigger and better than ever!
