They faced Atlantic currents, tides, swells and waves; not to mention the 15 degree water temperature. The day had something extra in store for them, “We were both stung by jellyfish and had to swim altered routes to avoid the swarms”.
Beverley had amassed over 100,000 metres of training in preparation for this epic challenge. Both have been up at the crack of dawn, or swimming late into the evenings around their work commitments to ensure they were in the best condition possible to complete the gruelling swim. At 67, this was a huge challenge for Steve, the swim took place in one day and required a similar amount of output as completing a marathon.
Thank you to everyone for donating and pushing them on to complete this remarkable adventure. The swim was completely self-funded and they smashed their £3,000 target, raising almost £5000 including gift aid and counting. This challenge raised awareness of our charity alongside much-needed funds to help support the continued delivery of the fantastic services offered by Reach.
