On Tuesday 3rd May, Reach Mansfield put on a Spring Concert to the delight of the audience.
Centre Manager, Maria Williams, and her hardworking team of Project Coordinators and Reach volunteers collaborated with clients to create an enjoyable programme of singing, dancing and acting.
Maria said: “The clients worked so hard – the Performing Arts group had been practising throughout the term to prepare. The way clients expressed themselves through dance, the way they made the audience laugh telling their jokes and the way they were supported by the community, was wonderful to see.”
Clients who performed at the concert reflected on the how they felt afterwards. Debbie shared: “I thought it was funny and I laughed. It was amazing.” Jamie said, “it was awesome,” while Hayden called the experience “excellent.”
The concert was an opportunity to strengthen community ties. The audience included Reach clients, staff, volunteers, family carers and members of the Mansfield community.
The Mayor of Mansfield, Andy Abrahams, was also in attendance. The Mayor said: “Thank you for inviting me to the Spring Concert, which was a fantastic afternoon of entertainment. The energy and enthusiasm of the performers was absolutely brilliant. I particularly enjoyed meeting everyone and having a great chat.”
The concert raised approximately £250 from ticket sales and donations. The donation will help Reach Mansfield to offer local people with learning disabilities opportunity to take part in courses and activities that enable them to gain new skills, build confidence and feel part of their community.
