Reach groups from Newark and Southwell recently joined forces and enjoyed a memorable visit to Southwell Minster to explore the acclaimed Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War exhibition.
The exhibition featured 80 metres of intricately knitted and crocheted panels, each telling a story from Britain’s Second World War experience. From the King’s Speech and D-Day to rationing and the Women’s Land Army, the wool art brought history to life in a vibrant and accessible way.
Clients were especially drawn to ‘The Gang’: eight life-size woollen figures representing wartime roles such as a Spitfire pilot, Land Girl and Home Guard member.
It was a brilliant opportunity to explore creativity, connect with local heritage and enjoy a day out in the community. Thank you to Southwell Minster for hosting us and well done to everyone involved in putting on such a fantastic exhibition, including Southwell & District Lions Club CIO who helped set it up.
