Centre Round Up – July

In News by Rachel Bates

The summer sun is shining as our clients at Reach have been taking part in lots of activities!

Reach Mansfield and Southwell have been showing their appreciation for their volunteers to celebrate all they do during National Volunteers’ Week. Mansfield had a tea party, where they could chat and make connections with other volunteers. Clients were also involved in organising this event. At Reach Southwell, clients made thank you cards, gave out volunteer certificates and baked cakes to share!

Reach Mansfield and Southwell also supported the Onefest walk in Mansfield on the 20th June together. Clients had made posters and banners to display to show their support. The sun shone and there were lots of happy people around promoting the inclusion of people with autism and learning disabilities.

At Reach Newark the art class created themed pieces of art in celebration of the Jubilee. This allowed them to use different materials and techniques in the colours red, white and blue to create union jacks and pictures of the Queen. Clients have also been learning to weave using wool, cardboard and pencils to create their designs.

Flower Pod Newark has been practicing mindfulness, giving clients a chance to reflect and relax whilst having fun. Clients created poles with ribbons they could use to watch the direction of the wind. They have also been busy building trellised seats so that fragrant flowers can grow over the top to provide shade.

Flower Pod Southwell have been working with students from Nottingham Trent University to plant summer bedding in hanging baskets and planters. Clients have also been helping out with many gardening tasks such as harvesting, weeding, digging over and planting dahlias. On the new photograph course, Nature Through the Lens, clients made beautiful floral headbands and practised taking selfies! Companies are returning for team building days too — they have made a real difference to the site and we hope to see them again in future.

It’s been a busy time for clients but an enjoyable one. We will continue to share our recent activities and events with the Reach community on social media and our website news page. We appreciate you following along with us!
