After much consideration, we have sadly taken the decision to close our Reach Café. This is due to the need to channel our resources into alternative services for people with learning disabilities at this difficult time.  Everyone is disappointed but we remain determined to adapt and survive in the face of the unprecedented challenges that Covid-19 brings.

We would like to thank our customers, clients, volunteers and all those who have used and supported the café in the past year.

We loved meeting the people of Balderton who used the café and we will miss them. For information about our services for people with learning disabilities in Newark please go to www.reachuk.org or contact Chantelle on 07834 578704.

Oliver attends Reach Newark and Flower Pod. He’s very community-minded and over the years has got involved in lots of activities to support Reach. Our new Reach Cafe in Balderton got Oliver thinking. He came up with the idea of a regular board game afternoon. Oliver explains:

“I like to host the group because I get to see all my friends there and we chat with each other. Playing games brings everybody together. The Reach Cafe is a good place to host the board game session because you can have tea and cake. It’s open to anyone who wants to come.”

Christine, Oliver’s mum, explains how the board game group has increased his quality of life in the community:

“It’s so important for Oliver to have good access to local groups so he can mix with others, feel valued and know that he’s offering something to the community. It’s an activity he really looks forward to because it’s so sociable and fun.”

REACH CAFE MANAGER

After many years working in the Food Manufacturing Industry and teaching Food Technology at University, I am very happy to have come to Reach as the Reach Cafe Manager.

The cafe is a delightful space nestled behind the Balderton Parish Council offices off Coronation Road and overlooks the attractive playing fields in front of the Poets Estate. The Reach Cafe has lots of potential to become a real hub of the community; from dog walkers to families visiting the park, from book clubs to board game afternoons, the cafe is a friendly, warm, fun place to meet. We welcome all!

I’m particularly looking forward to working with our clients to help them to build confidence, enjoyment and understanding of the running of a busy cafe. All exciting stuff! Watch this space...

A warm welcome awaits you at our Reach Cafe, Balderton at the Coronation Street Playing Fields where we are serving up delicious drinks and snacks. Whether you are looking for a comfortable, happy place to meet up with friends over good food, or shelter from the cold and enjoy a hot drink while walking your dog, there is something for everyone at the Reach Cafe. We also offer training to our clients to learn about the different tasks involved in running the cafe and host community events such as Oliver’s regular board game sessions.
