We have made the decision to temporarily close the cafe. We will continue to review this in line with Government guidance.  We will keep our customers and followers informed via our Reach Cafe Facebook page. If you have questions please e-mail cafe@reachuk.org.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE

Thank you for your patience whilst we continue to comply with all COVID-19 secure legislation and Government guidance.  Staff, client, customer and community safety is very important to Reach Learning Disability.  Unfortunately, we’re not able to open the café from July 4th but keep checking in and we’ll post up more information as we have it.  We know you’ll be disappointed, we’re very sorry and appreciate your understanding.

Please contact our Head Office on 01636 819066 if you have urgent questions regarding our service provision. For more general information please visit the NHS About coronavirus (COVID-19) page.

A warm welcome awaits you at our Reach Cafe, Balderton at the Coronation Street Playing Fields where we are serving up delicious drinks and snacks. Whether you are looking for a comfortable, happy place to meet up with friends over good food, or shelter from the cold and enjoy a hot drink while walking your dog, there is something for everyone at the Reach Cafe. We also offer training to our clients to learn about the different tasks involved in running the cafe and host community events such as Oliver’s regular board game sessions.

Oliver attends Reach Newark and Flower Pod. He’s very community-minded and over the years has got involved in lots of activities to support Reach. Our new Reach Cafe in Balderton got Oliver thinking. He came up with the idea of a regular board game afternoon. Oliver explains:

“I like to host the group because I get to see all my friends there and we chat with each other. Playing games brings everybody together. The Reach Cafe is a good place to host the board game session because you can have tea and cake. It’s open to anyone who wants to come.”

Christine, Oliver’s mum, explains how the board game group has increased his quality of life in the community:

“It’s so important for Oliver to have good access to local groups so he can mix with others, feel valued and know that he’s offering something to the community. It’s an activity he really looks forward to because it’s so sociable and fun.”

REACH CAFE MANAGER

After many years working in the Food Manufacturing Industry and teaching Food Technology at University, I am very happy to have come to Reach as the Reach Cafe Manager.

The cafe is a delightful space nestled behind the Balderton Parish Council offices off Coronation Road and overlooks the attractive playing fields in front of the Poets Estate. The Reach Cafe has lots of potential to become a real hub of the community; from dog walkers to families visiting the park, from book clubs to board game afternoons, the cafe is a friendly, warm, fun place to meet. We welcome all!

I’m particularly looking forward to working with our clients to help them to build confidence, enjoyment and understanding of the running of a busy cafe. All exciting stuff! Watch this space...

One of our incredible volunteers would like to share this with you: I am Christine, mum of Oliver and a volunteer of Reach. I have been fundraising with Friends of Reach over a number of years making and selling hand-made items through varied fundraising events. More recently I have had the support from Strays bookshop who have stocked and sold the variety of items I have made and with the help of their customers have raised much needed funds for Reach. Unfortunately in the aftermath of lockdown Strays have taken the decision to close the bookshop to make room for social distancing in the cafe. I am still very committed in helping raise money for Reach and have continued making items to sell and I would like to share these with you and if anyone is interested in supporting us I would love to hear from you. All proceeds from sales go to Reach. To place an order email crafty.mum83@hotmail.com
Or call 07866106925. Please share. A huge thank you to Christine from everyone at Reach!
