DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the date of our annual off-road bike ride. Reach Off Road is now in its 10th year and will take place on 3rd June starting at Southwell Rugby Club. The event offers 4 routes – 5\, 10\, 20 and 37 mile options. Reach Off Road is well known for its friendly atmosphere and wide array of cakes at the event village and at stops on route. This year we are working with British Cycling to help promote the event. Our fantastic committee of local people are once again helping with event co-ordination and marshalling and Rode Cycles will again be at the start venue providing bike repairs. We would love to hear from other local volunteers too! \nWe are delighted to welcome Saint Gobain Formula Newark on board as a sponsor for this year’s event. DESCRIPTION:Flower Pod are very excited to announce that Christine Walkden will be hosting a lecture at NTU in March\, in aid of Flower Pod. Christine is well known for her helpful (and sometimes outspoken) guidance on Gardeners’ Question Time\, for a wide range of TV programmes (e.g. Christine’s Garden\, Gardens from the Air) and for her frequent contributions to The One Show. \nWhen Christine visits friends in the area\, she usually finds time to mingle with customers at local garden centres and comments favourably on the quality and variety of plants available. \nDuring her visit last year\, however\, she found something that made a particularly significant impression. Volunteers\, clients and staff at The Flower Pod at Brackenhurst gave her a warm welcome and an insight into the wonders of that magical environment. The website describes the facility as\,\n“A relaxing setting where adults with learning disabilities work with local people to grow and sell flowers. It offers unique learning and recreational activities that help our clients gain important skills needed for independent living.” \nAnd Christine feels it certainly does what it says on the tin. It is very much in keeping with the kind of project that she admires and that is close to her heart. \nAs her way of saying thank you and to raise funds\, Christine has offered to present a lecture at Brackenhurst where all proceeds will be donated to the charity. The subject of the lecture is ‘The Life and Times of a Gardener’ and it will take place at 6pm for a 6.30pm start on 14th March. Tickets priced at £10 are available from Reach Southwell\, Prebend Passage\, Southwell. 01636 819066\, email sarah.cobb@reachuk.org. There will also be a raffle. Offers of prizes can be made to Reach and will be most welcome. \nChristine is good at making people laugh as well as sharing her knowledge and a memorable evening is guaranteed.
