The annual Bramley Festival celebrating food and drink took place at Southwell Minster on Saturday 28th October. Dorian, a Reach Southwell client entered the Apple Pie competition and won 2nd place!
Dorian spends three days a week at our Reach Newark centre, and one day at Reach Southwell where one of his classes is cooking. One aspect of the class is learning about local food, so clients made apple pies using the famous Bramley Apple. Other members of the class also entered the competition, and while they may not have placed, they got some very encouraging comments from the judges!
Taking part in cookery classes has helped Dorian to learn new skills and enabled him to become an active member of the local community, participating in cultural events.
Dorian thought it was very cool to be a winner. He has so far spent some of his winnings on a visit to a local café with support staff and friends, treating himself to a latte and a blueberry muffin.
